Regular maintenance is vital to ensure tires performance and long life.
Tire pressure should be checked and inflated to proper pressure on a monthly basis.
Most vehicles recommended air pressure could be found on the "placard"
usually located on the driver's door pillar, in the glove box, or in
the owner's manual.
The tire balance should be checked periodically.
As the tire tread wears away, it's possible the heavy area may change,
or the tire could move on the rim, due to hard acceleration or heavy
braking. Also, the weights used may have fallen off or shifted causing the wheels and tires to no longer be balanced.
Tire rotation is necessary to ensure even and smooth, long wear.
Today's front wheel drive cars are especially hard on the front tires.
With cornering forces, braking and accelleration occuring on the front tires, it's recommended the tires
should be rotated at least 5,000 to 7,500 mile intervals.
Uneven tire wear conditions are a sign of a pending problem.
Tires that shows more wear on both shoulders generally indicate a tire
that's continually been run under-inflated.
Tires that show the opposite- more wear in the center of the tread
area, generally comes from excessive over inflation.
If the tire shows wear on one side only, then the alignment should be
checked, with the exception of minor outside shoulder wear on front
wheel drive cars, which is normal.
Tires that have "cupping" (high and low spots worn on the shoulders)
usually have an imbalance problem, or possibly weak shocks or struts.
Tires should be cleaned with mild dishwashing soap or special car wash & water.
We don't recommend the use of tire dressings with silicone based shine enhancers. Certain brands may do more
harm by removing the anti-oxidants in the tire's sidewall.
